20 Facts about Android you may don't know

1. Android was not a Google's Idea. It was the idea of Android Incl founded by Andy Rubin but   later  it was bought by Google in 2005.

2.Android was initially intended to be an operating system for digital cameras. 

3. The first publicly used phone to run Android was HTC Dream which was released on October 22, 2008.

4. The main hardware platform for Android is the 32-bit ARMv7 architecture .It is supported in 32-bit ARM, MIPS and x86 platforms.

5. The green Android logo was designed for Google in 2007 by graphic designer Irina Blok. The logo  was inspired by the human symbol on restroom doors which was modified into the shape of a robot.

 6. The latest major release is Android 4.4 "KitKat.

7. Though Android is based on Linux Kernel, Android does not include the GNU C Library and some of other components typically found in Linux distributions. 

8. Each major release is named in alphabetical order after a dessert or sugary treat; for example, version 1.5 Cupcake was followed by 1.6 Donut

9. As of 2011, Android has the largest installed base of any mobile OS and as of 2013, its devices also sell more than Windows, iOS, and Mac OS devices combined. There were over 1 billion active monthly Android users, up from 538 million in June 2013.
